Dark Church

Because of this, the paintings and portraits inside the Dark Church, which, as its name suggests, only has a small window of light, have stayed in good shape. Serpentine Church

The Yilanli Church was built with a barrel vault and a rectangular shape, but it was never finished. While there are tombs in the southern portion, the eastern portion has a lot of attention-grabbing depictions.

St. Barbara’s Chapel

Barbara of Egypt is credited with building the Chapel of St. Barbara, which was constructed in the eleventh century. Since Barbara’s father was a Christian, she was killed, and now people honor her as a martyr. On the walls of the chapel, there are no pictures of people. Instead, there are geometric shapes with pictures of mythical animals. A prayer-like inscription is also seen on the wall. The western, northern, and southern arms of this cross-shaped chapel are barrel-vaulted. A picture of Jesus is located in the dome’s center.

Elmali Church

At the Goreme Open Air Museum, the cross-shaped Elmali Church is probably the most important building. Elmali Church, which stands in front of you with distinctive decorations and beautiful architecture, has nine domes. When the Elmali Church was fixed up in 1990, the frescoes did not change, but the church paintings were painted correctly. The entrance to this church is on the south side, and it was likely built around the middle of the eleventh century.

St. Basil’s Church

The cradle-vaulted St. Basil’s Chapel has three apses. A work from the 11th century, depicting St. Theodore on the north wall of St. Basil’s Chapel and images of Jesus, Mary, the Child Jesus, and St. George on a horse on the south wall. This chapel, which is devoted to St. Basil, is separated into columns from the major elements of the cathedral. Moreover, the area has a chapel that receives a lot of visitors.

Priests’ and Nuns’ Convent

This monastery has a total of 7 stories; however, only 2 of them can be seen. At the left entrance to the Goreme Open Air Museum, there is a monastery with many tunnels connecting the levels. What is on display at the Goreme Open Air Museum?
